Funded by a $2-million New York State grant, the Center for Innovation Technology and Entertainment (CITE) represents the second major initiative of the i2e Campus Transformation. Construction began for CITE, located on the first floor of the Dibner Builidng, in late- October 2010 and will be completed by the end of February 2011.
The centerpiece of CITE will be the Game Innovation Lab, a dynamic space for research and learning that leverages games as an innovation challenge. The Lab's core research and teaching activities will be grounded in computer science, engineering, and user experience, with the participation of researchers and educators from other allied disciplines. The Lab also will host a lecture/seminar series, and conduct outreach to local and international game industry partners and game-related technology innovation groups, toward providing students with mentors, internships and other opportunities.
Key features of CITE that will foster an i2e learning environment include:
Dynamic media display wall, measuring 12.6' wide by 5.2' high, and windows that will provide exciting glimpses, from the Dibner Building interior and MetroTech Plaza, of what's going on inside the lab;
High-tech "living room" where researchers and students can evaluate and discuss prototypes, and showcase their work;
A 3000-sq. ft., open space with a technical grid to create integrated teaching and research areas with projection, large shared monitors, moveable smart boards and moveable, modular furnishings; and
A state-of-the-art Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)/ Video Quality Lab.
A:The construction and final set up are expected to be complete by the end of February 2011. An open house to be held this spring will allow the NYU-Poly community the opportunity to get a close-up view of the new space.
A: CITE will foster interdisciplinary collaborations, bringing together leading researchers and their students across multiple departments - Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences.
A: The media display wall, to measure 12.6 feet wide by 5.2 feet high, will offer a unique glimpse into the kind of innovative research that will go in inside CITE. Visible from inside the Dibner Building and from MetroTech Plaza, the media display wall will feature dynamic content and video games that will allow for and encourage interaction from those inside and outside of the lab.
