    MetroTech Center Expansion
    Phase I: Summer 2011 to Winter 2012
Phase II: Summer 2012 to Winter 2013

NYU-Poly began expanding its campus into neighboring buildings in Downtown Brooklyn's MetroTech Center in the summer of 2012.  The Institute entered into a 20-year lease with real estate developer Forest City Ratner Companies for a total of 120,000 square feet at 2 MetroTech Center (on the 9th and 10th floors) and 15 MetroTech Center (on the 6th floor), which also involves a 9-year sub-lease of space from Wellpoint Insurance.

An important component of NYU-Poly's capital plan to transform the campus facilities and support academic objectives, the expansion into MetroTech accommodates i2e initiatives, additional research laboratories, more classrooms and seminar spaces, new faculty offices and laboratories and provides other opportunities which can help the Institute in achieving excellence.  Most significantly, the moves into MetroTech Center freed up space within current facilities for renovation and potential redevelopment.

2 MetroTech Center houses two academic departments -- all of the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department and a portion of the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department -- and three large-capacity classrooms.  The 15 MetroTech Center space houses NYU-Poly's administrative functions including: the Office of the President, the Office of the Provost, and the Office of Sponsored Research, among others.

The first phase of the MetroTech Center expansion included build-outs and moves into 15 MetroTech Center and the 10th floor of 2 MetroTech Center, which began in August 2011 and was completed in January 2012. The second phase, which encompassed the build-out of 2 MetroTech Center's 9th floor spaces, got underway in August 2012 and was completed in January 2013.

    Principles

Expanding into MetroTech Center buildings creates a better presence of NYU-Poly in the square, and imparts a more dynamic, vibrant feel to the
    campus.
