
John A. Roebling Symposium and Tours

Polytechnic’s Civil Engineering Department and the Metropolitan section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) will kick off a celebration of the life and work of John A. Roebling with an icebreaker reception at Polytechnic on Thursday, October 26, 2006. ASCE's History and Heritage Committee, together with the New Jersey and Metropolitan Sections, is sponsoring the symposium honoring Roebling's influence on civil engineering and a one-day motor coach tour of Roebling-related projects and sites.
The symposium will be held on Friday, Oct. 27, 2006 at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge. The tours will start on Saturday and will include the Brooklyn Bridge, Roebling wire rope factory sites, and the Delaware Aqueduct. The tour starts with a motor coach ride to the Delaware Aqueduct and continues with a tour of the Roebling factory and artifacts related to the Roebling legacy. The weekend will conclude with a walking tour of the Brooklyn Bridge as well as other Roebling sites in New York.
